Sheels Educational Ltd started over 18 years ago as a small family business founded by Ram and Sheela Matta. In the year 2000, Sheels opened the doors to their retail store in Lancaster Road, Enfield, named Sheels Books For Children. The store was established to provide teachers with a place to browse books and offer parents advice on suitable reading materials and recommended study guides for their children's age groups.
Over the years, Sheels has collaborated with schools globally, offering top-quality services, books, and guidance to enhance reading levels. Ram and Sheela's daughters have also contributed to the business, assisting with book fairs, events, and modernising the business with technological advancements.
In the summer of 2014, Sheels followed a trend observed in many independent bookstores across the UK by transitioning from a physical retail store to an online platform. However, retail customers are still encouraged to contact Ram for personalised advice and to place orders for books, which can be conveniently shipped.
Sheels is now headquartered in an office in Elstree, where they continue to serve schools and teachers with a friendly, reliable, and helpful approach in selecting and purchasing children's books. Recognising the market's volatility in 2020, Sheels has expanded its online presence, welcoming both parents and schools to explore and purchase from their best collections, including popular home reader boxes and more.
